Treat another airport as a complete journey. A cheaper arrival an extra two hours away may require a rental car, an expensive ride or your partner taking time off to collect you. Check transport availability at the actual arrival hour.

For a short visit, compare the useful hours together as well as the money. Paying a little more for an arrival before dinner might be worth it to you; that is a preference to discuss, not a rule that makes the cheapest option wrong.

Keep the alerts relevant. If you cannot take a flight with a long connection, do not treat its lower price as a realistic target for your direct flight. Track options you would actually book.

Agree on what makes a fare acceptable before an alert arrives: total price, arrival time, bags and booking conditions. An alert is a reason to check the current offer, not a promise that the fare will stay available.

Google Flights has a Bags filter that can include estimated baggage charges in the displayed price. Its information comes from travel partners, so verify the airline’s current size, weight and fee rules before paying.

Add any seat selection you intend to buy, airport parking, transfers and an overnight stay if the itinerary needs one. Check the complete return journey, not just the cheapest outward price.

Here is an illustrative comparison, not a current fare quote: Flight A costs $180, plus $70 for your chosen bags across the trip and $60 for airport transport. Total: $310. Flight B costs $240, includes the bag you need and requires $30 of transport. Total: $270. The higher advertised fare is $40 cheaper for this particular visit.

If you can comfortably travel with less luggage, price that version too. Do not assume a small suitcase is included just because it fits in an overhead bin.

Google distinguishes Best and Cheapest results. Its cheapest options can involve handling your own luggage transfer or using different airports. Read the itinerary carefully before treating two prices as equivalent.

Check who sells the ticket, who handles changes, and whether connections are on separate bookings. If the itinerary requires collecting bags, changing airports or checking in again, establish how much time and money that adds. Read the seller’s missed connection and cancellation terms rather than assuming coverage.

Compare the same itinerary with the airline’s own offer and read the final fare conditions. Basic fares, change options and baggage inclusions differ. Save the confirmation and the rules for the ticket you actually purchase.

Choose a booking decision, not an endless search

If your dates are fixed, start comparing once you know them and decide what fare your budget can support. If your dates are flexible, compare several workable windows before committing. This guide does not promise a universal cheapest day to book.

Google’s price insights are predictions based on past patterns, not guarantees. Weigh them alongside the chance that a useful flight sells out or becomes more expensive while you wait.

Before paying, confirm the dates with your partner, read the final total and check the traveler details. If none of the available options fits your budget, change the timing or length of the visit rather than making an unaffordable ticket a test of commitment.
