Long distance date planning
Fall Back 2026: Keep Your Long Distance Date on Track When the Clocks Change
In 2026, the UK puts clocks back on October 25, while US locations observing daylight saving time do so on November 1. For a long distance date between those places, check both cities for the actual date instead of using your usual time difference. Confirm both local start times, choose one shared photo, and use the overlap for a relaxed Lovla coloring date.

The two autumn dates that can change your usual call
GOV.UK lists October 25, 2026, as the end of British Summer Time. NIST lists November 1, 2026, as the end of daylight saving time in participating US locations. Both changes move the local clock back one hour.
Because the dates differ, your usual UK and US time gap can temporarily change. The clock change is not extra availability for every couple: one person’s work and sleep schedule may still leave a smaller overlap.
London and New York: a concrete evening example
For a date at 8 p.m. in London, the New York time shifts for the week between the two clock changes. These conversions concern those two cities after their respective transitions, not every place in the UK or US.
| Date of your call in 2026 | London start | New York start |
|---|---|---|
| October 24 | 8 p.m. | 3 p.m. |
| October 25 through October 31 | 8 p.m. | 4 p.m. |
| November 1 | 8 p.m. | 3 p.m. |
Choose which local time you want to preserve
Suppose 8 p.m. in London is the comfortable time because of a late shift. Keep that time and ask whether the changed New York time works. If New York’s 3 p.m. break is the scarce window, keep that local time instead and check what it becomes in London.
Neither person should have to absorb every inconvenient change by default. Name the constraint, compare two possible windows and choose the one you can both manage. If a recurring calendar event moves in an unexpected way, check which time zone the event is anchored to.
Write the date and both city names in the confirmation. A message such as “October 28, 8 p.m. London and 4 p.m. New York” is more useful than “same time as usual.”
Check your actual cities, including places that do not change
The US rule has exceptions. NIST identifies Hawaii and most of Arizona as places that do not observe daylight saving time, while the Navajo Nation does observe it. Several US territories also do not change. A London and Phoenix pair should not use the London and New York example.
Other countries have their own arrangements. Use the calendar or world clock for each actual city and the date you intend to meet. Check travel locations too: your partner’s home time zone may be wrong if they are away.
On the night when clocks repeat an hour, an early morning time can be ambiguous. Choose a clear daytime or evening window if possible and confirm the calendar conversion for that specific event.
Make the available overlap feel like a date
Choose the activity before the call so you do not spend the first half searching. Pick a clear photo from a day you both enjoyed and get permission to use it. A familiar walk or ordinary kitchen selfie can give you more to talk about than a perfect travel picture.
In Lovla, turn the photo into a coloring page, connect with your partner and color together. Choose a small area or palette rather than promising to finish everything during a narrow overlap. Keep the finished artwork in your shared journal.
Lovla provides the creative activity, not the time conversion. Use your calendar to agree on the window and the app for something personal to do inside it. Paper sketches over your usual call are another way to use the same idea.
A short checklist for the next two weekends
Before the UK change, review calls that fall between October 25 and November 1. Check them again after the US change if either location follows that rule. A few minutes now can prevent an avoidable missed invitation.
- Confirm the actual date and city for each partner.
- Check both local start times for that specific date.
- Review the time zone attached to any recurring event.
- Choose the photo or activity before your call.
- Agree on a shorter fallback if work or sleep makes the new overlap awkward.
