Small dates, shared memories
An Inside Joke Photo Date for Long Distance Couples
For an inside joke photo date, choose one funny picture you both like, tell the story behind it, write your own caption, then color it together in Lovla. Set aside about fifteen minutes and agree on the start time in both locations. Keep the joke kind and the image private unless you both want to share it.
Lovla turns a personal photo into a coloring page you can color together and keep in your shared journal.

Choose a joke you are both in on
A blurry vacation face, the meal that turned out enormous or a pet interrupting a call can make a good starting point. Choose a moment that makes both people smile. Being the subject of a joke is different from enjoying it.
Ask before using the photo. Skip private arguments, embarrassing moments one person dislikes and pictures of other people who did not agree to be included. You do not have to post anything publicly for it to feel like a shared joke.
A fifteen minute plan you can start tonight
These times are a suggested structure, not a Lovla timer. Shorten a step if the conversation is already flowing. If you need time to set up or connect in the app, do that before the planned window.
- First three minutes: each suggest one photo and agree on the picture.
- Next four minutes: take turns telling what happened just outside the frame.
- Next three minutes: each write one original caption and read it aloud.
- Last five minutes: start coloring the chosen photo together, or choose a later coloring window if tonight is too short.
Write a caption only you could have written
Borrow the rhythm of a meme without copying someone else’s image or joke. Start with a true detail. A photo of two people holding enormous ice creams might become “We said we were just getting a small snack.”
Other original starting points are “Our most ambitious plan was finding the right platform” for a station picture, or “The forecast forgot to mention our hair” for a windy walk. Replace the details with your own story. A caption is best when your partner recognizes the moment before you explain it.
You can disagree about which caption is funniest and still keep both in a private note. The aim is a little shared amusement, not deciding who is the entertaining partner.
Give the photo new colors
In Lovla, turn the agreed photo into a coloring page and invite your partner to color with you. Choose one playful change: a purple sea, a sweater in an impossible color or a bright background behind an ordinary kitchen. Keep enough familiar detail that you both recognize the moment.
A clear image is easier to work with than a dark or crowded one. If the funniest picture is hard to see, use a clearer photo from the same day and keep the original as the conversation starter. Save the finished coloring in your shared journal.
Lovla is the creative part of this plan. A paper caption game over your usual call also works if you are not using the app.
Make it fit the distance you actually live with
Put both local start times in the invitation rather than saying “after dinner.” If only one person is ready for a call, send a photo suggestion first and wait for the other person to choose a comfortable window.
You can collect caption ideas separately and read them together later. Avoid turning a delayed reply into a judgment about whether your partner found the picture funny. Different shifts, travel and ordinary tiredness can change what is possible tonight.
Let the joke end while it is still fun
If the bit has stopped being funny, choose a new memory instead of trying to revive it. End with one detail you are looking forward to next time you are together.
For a larger menu of games and activities, use the long distance activities guide. This plan is a specific choice for a call when you already have a picture and want something playful to do with it.
