A Whimsical Halloween Decor Date for Two Different Homes
A Halloween decorating date works across two homes when you share a theme rather than an identical shopping list. Choose three colors, make one small paper decoration each, then show where it will live. Paper moons, friendly pumpkin faces and little handwritten signs are easy starting points. Give the date an hour at most and keep the materials simple enough that both people can join.
Lovla lets you turn a shared photo into a coloring page and color it together, even when you are apart.

You do not need matching homes to make something together
One of you has a whole living room. The other has a rented bedroom and one shelf. That does not disqualify either person from the date. A tiny paper moon beside a desk can be as much a shared tradition as a decorated mantel.
Pick a theme that travels well: a sleepy moon garden, a miniature pumpkin café or a slightly ridiculous haunted bookshop. Each person interprets it with what they already have. The differences are part of the reveal.
A playful seasonal direction, with a clear source
Google’s Canadian Halloween report, published October 14, identifies whimsical Halloween decor as a breakout search over the past month. That is a regional trend, not proof that every country is searching for the same thing. It is a useful invitation to make Halloween softer, stranger and more personal.
For this date, whimsical means a pumpkin with an elaborate job title or a paper moon that looks permanently unimpressed. You can skip the elaborate props and keep the humor.
Choose one of these three small projects
Pick the same project if you enjoy comparing results. Pick different ones if you have different materials. The common colors are enough to connect them.
| Project | What you need | A detail that makes it yours |
|---|---|---|
| Moon and star garland | Paper, scissors, thread and removable tape | Write a tiny shared memory on the back of each moon |
| Pumpkin café | A small pumpkin and suitable markers or paint | Name it after your imaginary neighborhood café |
| Haunted bookshop shelf | Folded paper and a pen | Invent book titles about your funniest shared mishaps |

Give the date a beginning, middle and reveal
Spend five minutes picking your theme and colors. Use the next twenty or thirty minutes to make something while you talk. It is fine to be quiet while cutting or drawing. Finish by showing the decoration in its actual home, rather than holding it to the camera forever.
A useful prompt during the making: “If we had a shop together, what would we sell, and what would we be terrible at?” Or invent one completely unnecessary house rule for your imaginary pumpkin café. This is a playful activity, not a compatibility assessment.
Make it work with different budgets and spaces
If one person already owns paint and the other has only a pen, make paper decorations together. You can always add color later. A notebook page works; a craft store haul is optional. Check that removable tape is suitable for your surface before sticking anything up.
Use a battery light if you want a glow around paper. Keep the project small and easy to take down. The person who has less space should not have to apologize for their version being smaller.
Leave a little trace of the date
Take a photo of the finished corner and send it after the call. Later, when your partner sees that little moon in the background, they will know exactly which evening put it there.
If you have a shared autumn photo, a separate Lovla coloring session can carry the same palette into a memory page. Cream skies and lavender pumpkins are allowed. The artwork belongs to your evening, so it does not need to follow the weather.
You may eventually share an address. Until then, there can still be small things in both homes that say you made time for each other.
