After Up, Make a Date Out of Your Ordinary Moments

For a date inspired by Pixar’s Up, choose an ordinary photograph from your relationship and give it your full attention after the movie. Talk about the day around it, then turn it into a coloring page or write its story on paper. The idea is simple: make time for the life you already share, including the parts that rarely make it into a highlight reel.

Lovla gives your own photographs a creative second chapter as coloring pages you can work on together.

When the credits roll, leave a little space

Imagine this: the movie ends, the room goes quiet, and neither of you reaches for the next thing to watch. There are mugs on the table. Someone has claimed most of the blanket. A perfectly ordinary evening has suddenly become something you want to stay inside for a little longer.

That is a useful place to begin this date. You do not need a speech about your future. Ask one question: “Which ordinary day with me would you like to visit again?” Let the answer take a moment.

This is an imagined invitation for your evening, not an account of a Lovla customer’s experience. You can try it after the film or borrow the idea without watching anything.

The part of Up that follows you home

In Pixar’s Up, Carl and Ellie dream of traveling to Paradise Falls, while their life together unfolds around everyday realities. Carl later sets out in the house they shared. Pixar’s own description places both that grand adventure and their ordinary life at the heart of the story.

Our reading of the film is that a relationship gives familiar things an extraordinary amount of meaning. A room can matter because of who sat in it. A photograph can matter because you remember how it felt to take it. That is the feeling this date borrows.

This is an independent Lovla date idea inspired by the film, with no Disney or Pixar affiliation. Your own photographs are the material for the activity.

Look for the photograph you almost overlooked

Skip the search for your most impressive holiday picture. Look for an ordinary scene: breakfast before a journey, a rainy walk, the day you assembled a bookshelf and discovered an alarming number of leftover screws.

Each person can nominate one photograph. Explain the choice before deciding which one to use. The surprise may be discovering that your partner remembers a day you thought was completely unremarkable.

If that memory feels sad or complicated now, choose another. Neither the film nor the activity requires you to turn a tender evening into a conversation you are not ready to have.

Tell the story outside the frame

A photograph shows the moment someone pressed the button. Ask about the minutes on either side. What had just happened? Where were you going next? What would a stranger miss if they looked at the picture?

You may remember different details. Let that make the story bigger instead of turning it into a contest over the correct version. If one of you remembers a green coat and the other insists it was blue, your coloring page is about to have a very interesting coat.

  • What is one tiny detail you still remember about that day?
  • What did you like about us at that point in our relationship?
  • Is there something from that day we would enjoy doing again?

Give the memory a new set of colors

Turn the photo into a coloring page in Lovla. Choose colors together, divide the picture however you like, and talk while you work. You can also draw a simple version on paper or write a few sentences beside the original photo.

There is no need to finish tonight. The interesting part is spending time with a scene you would normally scroll past. Even a half colored picture can become a reminder of the evening you made it.

Before you stop, choose one small plan for the coming week that belongs in the same collection: breakfast together, a walk, or a few minutes on a call without multitasking. Leave enough room in the plan for it to actually happen.

Something worth noticing on a regular evening

The mugs will still need washing. Someone will have to fold the blanket. Tomorrow may look very much like today.

Take a photograph if you both want one. There may come a time when this quiet evening, with its unfinished page and its slightly cold tea, is exactly the day you want to visit again.

Make a little more time for us.
