How to play without turning it into a compatibility test

Each person chooses an answer, then says why if they want to. The other person gets one curious followup. You are not keeping a score, checking whether your partner remembers a previous answer or looking for proof that you agree on everything.

Start with five prompts rather than reading every question in order. Either person can pass, choose both or suggest a third option. A playful question should not trap someone into disclosing something private.

For partners apart, read the questions on your usual call. The game needs no special app. Lovla comes in if you choose the photo coloring activity later; it does not provide a built in question mode.

Five choices for an ordinary evening

Use these when you want to find something you can do soon. Once you spot an answer you both like, stop and make it practical.

  • Would you rather make a tiny dinner from what is already in the kitchen or have a picnic on the living room floor?
  • Would you rather try a cooperative board game or invent a silly drawing game?
  • Would you rather choose the music for tonight or let your partner build a surprise three song playlist?
  • Would you rather revisit a familiar café or try a new walking route with a snack stop?
  • Would you rather make dessert together or turn breakfast tomorrow into the date?

Five choices about memories

These prompts give you a story to tell rather than another list to finish. Choose memories you both enjoy discussing.

  • Would you rather see a photo from our first trip or an ordinary day we nearly forgot to photograph?
  • Would you rather revisit a beach memory or a city memory?
  • Would you rather recreate our first date or keep one detail from it and invent the rest?
  • Would you rather hear what I remember about a favorite day or tell me the detail I probably missed?
  • Would you rather make a small album of our funniest moments or a collection of the places we want to return to?

Five choices for a photo coloring date

If the memory questions bring a picture to mind, use these to decide what to make. You are choosing the activity together, not testing who has better artistic taste.

  • Would you rather color a recognizable selfie or a favorite place from a trip?
  • Would you rather keep the original colors or invent a palette we would never see in real life?
  • Would you rather choose the background color or the colors of our clothes?
  • Would you rather make one detail very accurate or give the whole picture a dreamlike feeling?
  • Would you rather begin a small area tonight or plan a longer coloring session this weekend?

Five choices for the next date

Let the choices suggest a direction before checking logistics. A hypothetical answer is not permission to book something without discussing it.

  • Would you rather return to a place that already feels like ours or try being beginners somewhere new?
  • Would you rather choose a date by the weather or choose one with a comfortable indoor backup?
  • Would you rather take a short trip with one shared activity or spend a day exploring close to home?
  • Would you rather trade turns planning a small surprise or choose every detail together?
  • Would you rather start a monthly tradition or try something different each time?

Turn one answer into a real plan

Name the overlap: “We both picked a familiar café.” Then choose a date, a spending limit if needed and one practical next step. Confirm hours, travel and access before promising an outing.

If your answers differ, ask which part appeals to each of you. Someone choosing a picnic may want quiet company rather than outdoor seating; someone choosing a café may simply want food without preparation. A small plan can accommodate both reasons.

If you cannot find a shared choice tonight, keep it as a conversation. You do not have to force an activity out of every good answer.

If you chose the photo: make a little more of the memory

Select a clear picture you both like and have permission to upload. Turn it into a coloring page in Lovla, connect with your partner and color together. Use your answers to choose the palette, then save the finished artwork in your shared journal.

For example, you might pick a city photo, keep the clothes recognizable and give the background a purple evening sky. You can leave part of the page unfinished and return to it later.

For a paper version, draw the main shapes from the photo and swap color suggestions. If you would rather keep talking, the larger questions guide offers more categories without requiring an activity.
